Learner Driver Caught Drink Driving After Row With Fiance

A learner driver has been caught drink driving following a “severe” argument with her fiancé.

28 year old Jemima Alexander took her finance’s care without his permission, the morning after they had an argument.

The court heard that she did not normally have access to his car keys as she is a learner driver.

At around 10.30 the same morning, another motorists saw the Toyota Yaris she was driving in a hedge.

The witness motorists stated that the car had obviously left the road.

The witness noticed that the driver was slumped over the steering wheel. At that point they decided to stop and help.

Alexander was described as being in a foul mood and smelling strongly of alcohol.

She then decided to reverse the car out of the hedge and carry on driving.

The witness then called the police to tell them what had happened.

Police then had reports of the car being driven and on further investigations found it in a layby with Alexander still behind the wheel.

She was breathalysed and found to have a reading of 84mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The current legal limit in England and Wales is 35mg.

Appearing in court, she pleaded guilty to drink driving and driving without a licence.

Alexander, who works in the catering industry was banned from driving for 20 months, fined £110 and a further £110 for the driving licence offence. She was also order to pay court costs.
